Each petal is cut into the MDF before any paint goes on, which means the painting has to follow a profile that is already fixed rather than the painter deciding where to stop. Then the rings are laid freehand from the centre out: magenta, white, a fine dark outline, gold at the tips.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eWhere it goes\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eAgainst a plain wall, where the silhouette can be seen. On a charcoal or deep-coloured wall it is at its best — the shaped edge disappears into a busy background and comes alive against a flat one.
