Hammered Lotus Urli Bowls – Set of 3 Sitting Urlis, Gold

$80.00

Three urli bowls — the shallow, wide-mouthed bowls Indian homes fill with water, flower heads and floating diyas — in graduated sizes, each on a short pedestal foot. The whole surface of every bowl is hand-hammered, inside and out, so the gold breaks into hundreds of small facets instead of sitting flat.

Product details

  • Set of 3 sitting urli bowls
  • Small: 5.5 inches high, 8 inches top diameter
  • Medium: 7 inches high, 10 inches top diameter
  • Large: 8 inches high, 12 inches top diameter
  • Total weight of the set: approx. 1.7 kg (3.8 lb / 60 oz)
  • Material: iron with a gold polish finish
  • Surface: hand-hammered throughout, scalloped lotus-petal rim
  • Handmade in India

Why this one

  • Hammered by hand, not embossed. Look at the interior in daylight: the dimples are irregular, which is what makes water and candlelight move across the surface rather than reflect as one sheet.
  • The rim is cut into petals. Each bowl finishes in a scalloped lotus edge rather than a plain circle — visible from above, which is how these are usually seen.
  • The heaviest of our four lotus sets at 1.7 kg for three — about 3.8 lb / 60 oz. You feel it when you pick one up.
  • Three usable sizes. 8, 10 and 12 inches across, 5.5 to 8 inches tall. Big enough that the large bowl works alone as a centerpiece.

Which of the four lotus urli sets is this?

We make four sets that look similar in a thumbnail and are quite different in a room. Two things separate them: whether the bowl is pierced with cutouts or hammered, and whether it sits low or stands on a stem.

  • Cutout, sitting — Pierced lotus cutouts, short foot, 4.5–7 in tall
  • Hammered, sitting — this set. Hammered dimpled surface, short foot, 5.5–8 in tall
  • Hammered, standing — Hammered bowls on tall slim stems, 12.5–16 in tall
  • Cutout, standing — Pierced lotus cutouts on tall stems, 13.5–17.5 in tall

Where it works

Dining table, as a run of three down the centre for a dinner. Entryway, one bowl with water and petals. Mandap and reception tables — these photograph well under warm light because of the hammering. Pooja room, for flowers, fruit or prasad. The large bowl also works as a fruit bowl the rest of the year.

Gifting

Given at Diwali, griha pravesh and weddings. The hammered surface makes this the more forgiving of the two sitting sets for daily use — small marks disappear into the texture rather than showing on a flat finish.

These go out as gift sets often enough that we keep stock deep. If you need several — wedding favours, a Diwali order for a team, return gifts for a large function — email contact@urliutsav.com before you order. Bulk pricing is available and we will confirm quantities and timing with you first.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between this and the cutout set?
This one is hammered all over with a solid sidewall. The cutout set is smooth gold with the lotus pattern pierced through the metal. Same purpose, different look — the comparison above links both.

Sitting or standing — which should I get?
Sitting sets like this one sit low and are meant to be looked into from above, on a table or console. Standing sets lift the bowls to eye level on stems and read better on the floor, in an entryway, or either side of a mandap.

Are the bowls identical apart from size?
Yes — same hammering, same petal rim, three diameters.

Is the hammering machine-made?
No. It is worked by hand, which is why no two bowls are quite identical. Small variations in the dimple pattern are normal and are not a fault.

Do they come with candles or flowers?
No. The three bowls only.

How do I clean them?
Wipe with a dry or barely damp cloth. Do not soak them, do not put them in a dishwasher, and dry them fully after you empty the water out. The gold is a polished coating over iron, not solid metal, so abrasive scourers and harsh cleaners will wear it.

Can I put water in them?
Yes — that is what they are for. Fill, float, then empty and dry the same evening rather than leaving water standing for days.

Can they go outside?
For an evening on a covered patio, yes. Not for permanent outdoor use: they are iron underneath and will rust if they are rained on or left damp.

What if something arrives damaged?
Shipping is insured. Send a photo to contact@urliutsav.com and we will replace the piece or make it right.

Can I return them?
Yes, within 30 days in original condition and packaging. Return shipping is arranged and paid by the customer.
